OUR SERVICES

We cover all aspects of tree surgery and garden maintenance.
Please take a look below for more information on some of the services that we provide.

CROWN LIFTING & CROWN REDUCTION

Crown lifting and crown reduction is a very skilled area of an Arborist’s work.
Crown lifting is where the lower branches of a tree are removed to effectively raise the crown to a given height.  The height is raised by the removal of whole branches or removing the parts of branches which extend below the desired height. The branches are normally not lifted to more than one third of the tree’s total height.
This is a particularly useful treatment for large garden trees where shading is a problem, as the light cannot come in underneath the tree.  Crown lifting is also often carried out for access purposes; lifting the crown allows traffic and pedestrians to pass underneath safely.
A crown reduction is where the crown of the tree is made smaller without spoiling the overall shape.  This can be done for a number of reasons, such as to reduce the weight in potentially dangerous trees, but can also be useful if trees are obstructing or damaging buildings or power lines.  In fruit trees this is also often carried out in order to increase light interception and enhancing fruit quality.

POLLARDING

Pollarding a tree can be beneficial to our gardens for a wide range of reasons. It is an effective way to reduce the amount of shade cast by trees, it prevents trees from outgrowing their local environment and is often used in urban situations where trees might hinder neighbouring properties or overhead cables. Many different species of trees can be pollarded on a regular basis and in some cases it can be an effective way to rejuvenate a tree and to prolong its life.

TREE FELLING

Straight felling is where a tree is cut from the base and allowed to fall to the ground in a controlled manner.
You really wouldn't want to get this one wrong... so only experienced tree surgeons should carry this practice out – a small mistake could cause serious damage, particularly to property!
